D19: Feature Driven Volume Rendering

Abstract:
Feature layers allowing a wider spectrum of visual classification represent varying materials of volume datasets. However, to visualize feature layers with traditional direct volume rendering method, which requires significant time-consuming and complex transfer function specification. We propose a feature driven volume rendering method, which can automatically explore volumetric data. Features are firstly detected by our analytical tools, and then a novel volume rendering equation was defined to enhance them. Additionally, feature layers can be easily peeled with transfer function. As will be shown by experiment study, our rendering method is much more suitable for interactive data exploration with high efficiency.
