Combining Bidirectional Path Tracing and Multipass Rendering

Abstract

A flexible multipass framework for global illumination is presented in which bidirectional path tracing is used as a final pass. This final pass is constructed so that it is ensured that a complete solution for the global illumination problem is obtained, no matter what kind of preprocessing steps are used. Results show significant improvement compared to both other multipass methods and standard bidirectional path tracing.
